Biography

Prof. Albanese specialises in environmental geochemistry, geochemical prospecting techniques for environmental monitoring, and the definition of soil geochemical background values for potentially toxic metals. He joined the EuroGeoSurveys Geochemistry Expert Group in 2004, working on the international research project "FOREGS – European Geochemical Baseline Mapping". Since 2008, he has worked as a member of the Italian research unit for the GEMAS project, focusing on the geochemical mapping of European agricultural soils and pastures.

His focus has been on advanced statistical and geostatistical methods for managing and mapping geochemical data, as well as developing operational models for quantitative ecological and health risk assessments. Stefano graduated with a Master's Degree in Geological Sciences in 2001 and earned his Ph.D. in Earth Sciences from the University of Naples "Federico II" in 2006. He has worked intensely in scientific editing, notably serving as the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Geochemical Exploration between 2017 and 2024. Since 2022, he has worked as a Full Professor of Geochemistry at the Department of Earth, Environment and Resources Sciences (DISTAR) of the University of Naples Federico II. He has published 164 peer-reviewed publications and has recorded more than 6,100 citations, reaching an H-Index of 46 at the end of 2025.
