Peer-reviewed journal

Geochemistry: Exploration, Environment, Analysis

GEEA focuses on the use of geochemistry in mineral exploration and resource development, and on environmental issues related to mining. It is part of the Lyell Collection — one of the largest integrated collections of online Earth Science literature — and is co-owned by the Association of Applied Geochemists and the Geological Society of London. GEEA is provided to all students, Post Doctoral Fellows, Regular Members and Fellows.

Editor-in-Chief (2025–present)

Matthew Leybourne

Queen's University, Kingston, Canada

Key topics

  • Integration of geological, geochemical, and geophysical methods to aid mineral exploration
  • Geochemical mapping at all scales
  • Identifying the nature and extent of pollution associated with mining and mineral processing, and approaches to remediation
  • Advances in analytical instrumentation and methodologies related to geoanalysis
  • Case histories of innovative geochemical methods leading to new mineral discoveries

Open Access support: The AAG will pay Open Access fees for review papers that provide a comprehensive, in-depth and balanced perspective on the state of the art of a field. Students who are lead authors on a GEEA paper also qualify for free Open Access.

AAG Cameron-Hall Medal

Presented annually to the lead author of the best research paper published in GEEA in the preceding calendar year. The winner is selected by the GEEA Editorial Board and the medal is presented at the AAG's biennial International Applied Geochemistry Symposium (IAGS). Authors of the winning paper are given perpetual free open access on the Lyell Collection.
